However, until recently, the only place to get them was at Dr. Siegal’s clinics in Florida or from several hundred doctors to whom he provided them. CookieDietOnline.com was launched on May 14, 2007. With almost no advertising, first two months' sales were about $500,000 and the pace is accelerating daily.

Dr. Siegal's COOKIE DIET™ - More than 500,000 people have used his cookies to lose weight. Now it's your turn!

The physician supervised approach involves blood-work, thyroid testing, and medications where appropriate. This may sound expensive to some, but most of the offices charge less than $300 for all of it. Their main goal of course is to sell you the cookies. How do the cookies taste? Reasonably good.

The cookie diet appears to use "secret formula" cookies that are not really cookies. Instead they are a combination of amino acids and fiber designed to make you feel full with a minimum of calories consumed. The cookie flavors consist of Oatmeal raisin, chocolate, banana, coconut and blueberry.

Patients on the Cookie Diet program eat six cookies per day and 8 glasses of water, and a sensible dinner. Dinner being the only true meal that you consume. Cookie ingredients include whole wheat, bran, rice, oats, natural fiber, proteins and other substances that make the cookie filling. Siegal, 78, said vitamins are intentionally left out to avoid altering the taste but multivitamins are provided in each box. The cost for a week's supply of the fat-busting snacks: about $60.

The cookie diet instructs people to drink plenty of water with the cookies, which also makes them feel content and satisfied. This is a physician supervised program which usually prescribes supplements to help deal with the effects of having the more fiber in the diet, and sometimes prescription appetite suppressants too.

The goal of the program is to get you to live on only 800 calories per day (the average mortal requires approximately 2,000 to maintain their existing weight). 500 calories coming from the 6 cookies and 300 coming from the high protein dinner. Now with this large decrease in calories it's hard not to lose weight, and cookie diet claims the average loss is 10 to 12 pounds per month.
