Pregnancy And Dieting Risks

Women who are pregnant who overindulge in eating junk food increase their risk of giving their child an addiction for a diet rich in sweets, fats and salty foods. This study was based on research done with rats of course. British researchers have shown that the offspring of female rats that ate junk food during their pregnancy and lactation period were definitely more drawn to high fat, high sugar and low protein foods and were more likely to put on weight. Bruce Blumberg, a researcher at the University of California, Irvine, said the suggestion that this effect in rats mirrors what happens in humans is "certainly plausible.'' We now know behavior of the mother during pregnancy as well as genes plays a crucial role in the obesity of the child. Many women use the old adage that "I'm eating for two" and therefore, that excuses them off their normal healthy diet. You can spoil yourself while on your pregnancy, but do the fatty, sugar and salty foods in moderation. In return, you will not have to take a year or two to lose 60 pounds and your child will live a healthier life starting from the womb.

Harvard University study released earlier this year showed that women who gain excessive weight while expecting were four times more likely to bear children who were overweight by the age of three than those who remained slimmer during their pregnancies.

It's been suggested that these mothers raise heavy set kids because they continue very poor eating habits long after giving birth, and pass these habits on to their children and the cycle continues.

Based under guidelines set about seventeen years ago, women possessing a normal body mass index (BMI) involving their weight and height were expected to gain twenty-five to thirty-five pounds. Those with a higher body mass index should have a lower weight gain than previously stated, and only a fifteen pound weight gain for overweight or morbidly obese women. Women with a lower BMI should actually gain near forty pounds during their pregnancy.

Pregnant women should never take diet pills during their pregnancy or breastfeeding and never fast! She or speak to your OBGYN about what you should eat or avoid and what type of exercises you can perform while pregnant. For more information please visit The Definitive Weight Loss & Diet Guide.
